Drawstring Squishy Bag

I’ve discovered project bags! Project bags are little bags made to hold various knitting, crochet, English Paper Piecing, or cross-stitch projects that you are working on. There are so many different patterns out there and I think I have a collection of several that will work for my aesthetic. I especially like the ones that have a drawstring top because you can cinch them up so nothing falls out, but you can also turn the top edge over to crochet or knit directly from the bag.

So I was very excited when I found out that Erica Arndt had designed a cute patchwork version of the project bag. I always like her patterns and the cute fabric combos she uses. She also has a tutorial to go along with the pattern, which is always helpful. This bag features a pack of mini charm squares to create a quilted patchwork section at the top of the bag. This is a very unique feature and looks super cute. It’s also easy because using the mini charm pack means that the pieces are pre-cut and faster to put together. The only problem I had with this project is that the mini charm pack I used wasn’t exactly 2.5” squares. Some were slightly longer on one side, which caused some problems when I went to line them up and sew them together. I was so excited about the pattern that, as usual, I bought several mini charm packs to make multiple bags. I’ll have to be careful to check the rest and even them out if they aren’t perfectly square.

I also added a longer, end-to-end slip pocket that I sewed into several sections to hold needles or scissors separate from the yarn in the center area. This is always helpful to keep everything in its place. Overall I think this is a darling pattern and I will definitely be adding this to my product line!
