Essential Oil Case

This pattern is part of Sew Sweetness’ Minikins 2 pattern set. This is basically the pattern I bought the whole set to get so I was excited to make it. I had bought all the supplies for this over a year ago but have putting other things in front of it, mainly because I didn’t fare well on another square pattern like this by her and was worried that this smaller version would be even more difficult. And I was right…sigh.

Sometimes I just don’t know what I’m missing. I read the directions, watch the video (in which she is way calmer than I was making this), and just feel like I’m missing some critical information - or maybe just the gene that allows people to sew curves and corners together. I’ve tried all the tricks and I just can’t seem to make it work. My corners are always a disaster and look like a two-year-old sewed them. This is one of those times that my husband hears me swearing and shouts from the other room, “you know you don’t have to finish that - you can stop anytime.” But I wanted to finish it just because I don’t like quitting and I was actually making it for myself to store my essential oils in.

After ironing it and trying to force the shape more with the foam insert that holds the essential oil bottles, it doesn’t look as bad as all that. But I don’t think I’ll be making any more. The other problem with small projects like this is that they are so hard to sew together with all those tight corners. It just seems more trouble than it’s worth and not something I’m going to want to charge money for. That being said, I would really like to make something else before the end of the year to end on a good note.
