Annie’s Kit Clubs - Moroccan Afghan

I saw this ad for a monthly kit that helps you expand your crochet skills. After crunching the numbers I decided it would be a good idea for me. Not only would I learn a lot of new stitches but I’d also have a fun surprise that shows up every month. I think it’s also something that could be overwhelming all at once but staggered over 10 months seems more manageable.

I was originally going to get the Christmas stripe blanket (still thinking about that one…) as I love the colors and thought it would be a fun thing to take out at the holidays to decorate my house, but decided to go with the exotic Moroccan blanket. It is definitely out of my comfort zone and is very striking. It has a unique color palette (three options) and has a large central block with other blocks around it so I’ll be learning lots of new techniques. It will also provide some consistent content for my new YouTube channel.

I got the first box right away and boy am I glad it came with step-by-step tutorial videos! That pattern scared me - I’m not used to reading crochet patterns. I took my time and did one or two rounds each session along with the videos. I had to do the first few rows over several times before I got it right. I like that the video have you count everything and double-check your gauge. Being off on your row count has serious cumulative effects! So I wanted to do it right.

I’ve completed the first box and am eagerly awaiting my second shipment! I had a coupon for half off my first box but normally it works out to about $200 by the end of the blanket. But that includes the videos and yarn so not too bad of a deal. Plus everything you learn can be applied again on future projects so it’s a good investment. And I’m seriously thinking I should do the Christmas blanket! And they have lots of other kits and crafts as well if crochet isn’t your thing.

Here is what I have so far!
