I Started a YouTube Channel!

I can’t believe it! I actually did it!

I’ve been watching all these YouTubers over the past two years and just marveling at how they can put themselves out there in the world. Some are just talking to the camera the whole time, others have this whole artistic way of showing their daily walks, making tea, or painting. The little seed was planted a few months after the pandemic started when I was starved for content and discovered the wide world of vlogging (blogging with video). I was hooked! All of a sudden it was like I had a bunch of friends who lived all over the world who were sharing video letters with me and I was super invested in their lives! It was great.

And then I started wondering if it was something I could do. I mean, I’ve performed on a stage, and although I’m a total introvert, I know that I can make that one-on-one connection through performing. I just didn’t know if I would be able to feel natural while talking to a camera. Then I figured I might as well try it and then I would know. So I broke out my phone camera and started recording. I’m a bit uncomfortable (and I say “umm” a LOT) but I feel like that will get easier in time. I’ve watched some of my YouTubers go from full-time jobs or freelance jobs to doing YouTube full-time and getting enough in ad revenue and Patreon supports to support themselves. For years I’ve been wondering how I can make a living off of what I do. I mean I love making bags but by the time I add in my labor, and pay myself even minimum wage, the bags would be too expensive to sell. Now this idea is a way to gain another revenue stream while still doing what I love. Maybe together they can be enough to support me. And the YouTube channel will be a good way to announce when I have new bags in the shop.

I’m really excited about this new adventure! I was really nervous about doing the video editing. I’m pretty good at picking up new software programs but have never done video editing. It was a pretty steep learning curve but I think I’m getting the hang of it now. Although there are a lot of other things I will need to learn to make my videos look like my idols’.

I would love for you to take a look and subscribe if it’s something you feel would be beneficial for you. I really want to build a community of crafters and talk about some of the things we don’t often get to share - like how to protect your creativity and time, how to practice self-care, and how to stay motivated and find time for your passion. I hope you join us for this journey!
