Metro Double Zip Pouch
Ahhh!!! Now this is what I call a great pattern! It was a little hard to wrap my brain around how to construct both the pockets but it’s such a cute and useful wristlet pouch! This is the type of bag I would use all the time. Just big enough to hold your keys, wallet, phone, and lip balm. It’s got a wristlet strap so you can use it for fairs or walking around a city you are visiting without worrying about having to keep it from slipping off your shoulder. I also like it because the small strip of fabric between the two pockets can be a contrasting accent.
This bag just makes me swoon - which is ironic because it’s not a Swoon bag but a Sew Sweetness bag (inside joke). The only drawback to this pattern is that it’s part of larger bundle of patterns so you can’t purchase the pattern separately. But the good news is that there are enough cute patterns in the bundle that it works out to a good price. Plus all the patterns come with a tutorial video, and Sara makes some great step-by-step videos which are easy to follow (and she has that calm tone in her voice that stops you from throwing the project out the window).
There were only two modifications I made to the original pattern. One was that I used #5 zippers instead of #3. This is because I only have stock of #5 zippers and I like the way they look. Using a suggestion from the Sew Sweetness facebook group, I just adjusted the seam allowance on the zippers to get it to lay correctly so they weren’t sticking out from the body of the bag. I also used fusible fleece to give the bag a little more body and cushion. This adds to the thickness in the seams but I have a Juki so I don’t have to worry about that. You could just leave the fleece out of the seam allowance to help with this.
In addition to all these other features, the bag is very fast to make and doesn’t take much fabric so you are really getting a good bang for your buck. I already have a ton of fabrics I want to use with this pattern! And since it’s a smaller bag, the price point can be less. That means if you’re selling a lot of larger bags that are at a higher price point, this would be a good product to round out that smaller price. It’s also a good size for young girls who wouldn’t necessarily be able to afford your pricier items so it’s a good bag to sell at craft fairs.
