Winter Blanket

As the weather gets warmer it is harder to continue working on my winter crochet project! I feel like I’ve been working on this blanket longer than all the others, which is true, because I made it a larger size. Normally I make baby blankets that are about 24” wide but in doing my research on the sizes others are making on Etsy, it looked like this size is really only useful for the first few months and then the baby would be too large to be wrapped in the blanket. So I increased the width of this blanket to compensate without realizing that it would also increase the amount of yarn needed and the amount of time to make the project. I don’t think I’ll be able to sustain making them this size in future. Making a smaller blanket enables me to switch projects faster and the larger the project the more unweildy it is to try and work on. So I think that after this I will go back to my original size. Even though that one isn’t large enough to be a crib blanket it is still very useful for car seats and strollers. And then can be used as a cape later (as a co-worker sent me a picture of this year- haha!).

Other than the size, I’ve really enjoyed working on this blanket. It’s my first time using the Crunch stitch and I think it looks very unique and intricate but is still a relatively easy stitch to do while watching TV. It’s a tighter patterns so very appropriate for my winter-themed yarn. As always, I relied on my girl Bella Coco on YouTube to teach me the stitch. I really like the way she goes slow and explains all the steps and row repeats. And if I haven’t worked on a project in a while, I can go back and rewatch the video to get started again.

I’m using the Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn that I love. The colorway is Summerfield Ombre. I tend to stick with my trusty H (5mm) crochet hook for this yarn as it gives a tight structure but not so tight that it’s difficult to work with. I like to stick with tighter stitches for baby blankets so that little fingers and toes don’t get stuck through the holes! I’m just hoping I can finish before it really turns into spring and I get distracted by all the beautiful springy colors I have in my yarn stash!
